Time was when most film treatments of King's books were a rather consistent failure to measure up to the source material. These days however, in the hands of skillful screen writers, with some smart plot changes and better pacing, the trend seems to have broken decidedly in the other direction. That is to say, if you haven't read King's tedious Hodges trilogy yet, I advise you to save yourself the trouble (with the bonus of avoiding too many lame attempts at humor and the tired, unbidden political lecturing King is prone to lately), and watch this far superior first installment of what (if the standard set here is maintained) promises to be a highly entertaining series of films.
